St. Scholastica rallies for 60-54 win over Augsburg.

DULUTH, Minn. (11/26/02) -- Outscoring visiting Augsburg College 10-1 in the final 2:29 of the game, the College of St. Scholastica rallied for just their fourth lead of the game, claiming a 60-54 win over the Auggies in a nonconference women's basketball game Tuesday night at St. Scholastica.

Augsburg missed three field goals and committed three turnovers in its final five possessions to fall to 1-2 overall with its second straight loss. St. Scholastica, an NAIA national tournament team last season, improves to 1-1.

The Auggies led 32-25 at halftime and led by as many as nine points early in the second half before the Saints rallied back to take a 38-36 lead with 11:58 left. Augsburg used a 9-2 run to take a 45-40 lead with 8:25 left, but the Saints rallied back again, scoring 16 of the final 21 points of the game over the final 5:59 to earn the win.

Poor shooting hurt the Auggies for the second straight game. Augsburg shot just 28.6 percent from the field (14-of-49) and just 15.4 percent from three-point range (2-of-13).

Ashley Sasek (So., Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) led the Auggies with 15 points, three steals and two assists, while Kelly Chapman * (Jr., Willernie, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) had 11 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Katie Kelsey (So., Burnsville, Minn.) had eight points, and Julie Andert * (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) had seven points and a game-high nine rebounds. Megan Wetzell * (Wells, Minn./United South Central HS) had six points, and Shannon Spears (Sr., Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) had five points and five rebounds.

St. Scholastica was paced by Jackie Plesha, who had 178 points and five rebounds. Allison Sanderberg had 11 points, five rebounds and four steals, and Jen Kne had nine points. Amanda Norman had seven points and four assists.

Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play after the Thanksgiving break, playing at Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
