Augsburg completes sweep of Bethel, scores 4-1 win!

FRIDLEY, Minn. (12/14/02) -- Annie Annunziato (Jr., Commack, N.Y.) had a goal and two assists, and Corrie Krzyska (So., Fridley, Minn.) had a goal and assist, as Augsburg College claimed a series sweep of Bethel College, scoring a 4-1 victory in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Saturday night at the Columbia Arena.

After starting the season 0-5, Augsburg has went 5-2 in its last seven games, improving to 5-7-0 and 5-3-0 in MIAC play. Bethel drops to 1-8-0 and 1-7-0 in MIAC play.

Augsburg scored twice in the first period and twice in the third to score the victory and the sweep. Augsburg beat Bethel 6-3 on Wednesday night at Augsburg.

Krzyska scored the game's first goal, a power-play tally on assists from Annunziato and Melynda Kleewein (So., Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond HS) at the 10:35 mark of the first period.

Carrie Velenchenko (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) scored for the Auggies at the 16:50 mark, on feeds from Lauren Chezick (So., Hastings, Minn.) and Annunziato.

Alyson Sundberg (Sr., St. Paul, Minn./Roseville HS) claimed her fourth goal of the series for the Royals in the second-period, scoring on an unassisted goal at the 12:34 mark.

But Augsburg put the Royals away with two goals in a 1:02 span early in the third period. Annunziato scored on the power play from Allegrezza and Kleewein at the 57-second mark, and Christina Hughes (Jr., Chaska, Minn.) scored her first goal since the 2000-01 season at the 1:59 mark, on a feed from Krzyska.

Augsburg outshot Bethel by a 58-13 mark. In the series, Augsburg outshot Bethel by a 91-34 margin. Katie Fedoryk (Jr., Austin, Minn.) made 12 saves for Augsburg, while Kelly Fillmore (So., Columbia Heights, Minn.) was busy in net for Bethel, making 54 saves.

Both teams now take a break for the holidays. Bethel returns to action on Jan. 4, hosting Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 7 p.m., while Augsburg returns to action on Jan. 7, hosting Wesleyan (Conn.) at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena..
