Bethel rallies late, claims 62-56 win over Augsburg.

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (2/13/02) -- Laura Jacobs (Sr., Wells, Minn./United South Central HS) scord 21 points and had eight rebounds, leading Bethel College to a 66-52 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night at Bethel's Robertson Center.

An 11-1 run by Bethel over a 3:49 span late in the second half enabled the Royals to work from a 49-49 tie to a 60-50 lead, and the Royals never trailed after that to improve to 4-20 overall and 4-17 in the MIAC. Augsburg dropped to 8-16 overall and 7-14 in MIAC play, losing its second straight game and third in its last four.

Joelle Purcell (So., Annandale, Minn.) hit a free throw and had a three-pointer during the crucial Bethel run, while Jacobs added four points. After the scoring run, the Royals hit 8-of-10 free throws to clinch the win.

Jen Ahlberg (Fr., Milaca, Minn.) added 10 points and five rebounds for Bethel, while Stefanie Smith (Fr., Birchwood, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) had nine points and Kristin Lundeen (Jr., Becker, Minn.) had eight.

Augsburg was led by Kelly Chapman (So., Willernie, Minn./Mahtomedi HS), who had 13 points, three assists and three steals. Allison Illa * (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) notched the second double-double of her season, and her career, with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Julie Andert (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) had seven points and a career-high 15 rebounds for the Auggies.

Both teams finish their seasons on Saturday (2/16), with Bethel hosting Concordia-Moorhead at 1 p.m. and Augsburg hosting Gustavus at 3 p.m.
