Men's Hockey 2/8/02 -- Augsburg 4, Bethel 2

FRIDLEY, Minn. (2/8/02) --
Brad Schwartzbauer (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored two goals, and
Jaro Cesky (Jr., Prague, Czech Republic) had a goal and two assists, leading Augsburg College to its sixth straight men's hockey win, a 4-2 triumph over Bethel College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game Friday night at the Columbia Arena.
Jake Wegscheider (Sr., Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) added three assists for the Auggies, now 12-7-3 overall and 8-4-1 in MIAC play. Augsburg has a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) and is 7-1-2 in its last 10 games. Bethel drops to 6-16-0 and 2-11-0 in MIAC play, losing its third straight game.
Augsburg outshot Bethel by a 42-26 margin, including a 16-3 advantage in the first period, as Augsburg took a 2-0 lead on goals from
Joe Johnson (Sr., Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) and Schwartzbauer. Both of Schwartzbauer's goals came on assists from Wegscheider and Cesky.
Schwartzbauer gave the Auggies a 3-0 lead on his second-goal of the game in the second period. Bethel scored both its goals in the third period, from David Vidmar (Sr., Chisholm, Minn./Hibbing HS) and Chad Anderson (Sr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS).
Peter Samargia (Jr., Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS), made 24 saves to claim the win for the Auggies, his fifth straight win in goal. Jeff Hall (Sr., Edina, Minn.) made 38 saves in a losing effort.
The teams complete their MIAC series on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
