BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS (9/1/02) -- Brian Benge scored two goals as part of a three-goal Simpson College outburst late in the game, giving the Storm a 4-0 shutout win over host Augsburg College in a nonconference men's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

It was the first game of the season for Simpson; Augsburg drops to 0-2, having yet to score a goal in two nonconference losses to Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams over the Labor Day weekend.

Simpson outshot Augsburg by a 25-9 margin, including a 16-5 advantage in the second half. However, the Storm led just 1-0 until late in the game, thanks to a penalty-kick goal by Benni Zasendorf in the 10th minute.

But Simpson put three goals on the board in a two-minute span after the 77th minute; with two goals from Benge and the other from David Wagner. Juan Navas and Zasendorf had assists on the goals.

Han Zeller (Jr., Winona, Minn.) started in goal for Augsburg and played the first half, making three saves. Chad Clausen (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) made six saves, playing the second half.

Matt Edgington made five saves to score the shutout in goal for Simpson.

Augsburg returns to action on Tuesday (9/3) at 3:30 p.m., playing at Northwestern College-Roseville in a nonconference match.
