MINNEAPOLIS (9/14/02) -- Aaron Reidel (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and
Mike Elcano (So., Sparks, Nev./Bishop Manogue HS) scored goals in the final eight minutes of play, rallying Augsburg College to a 2-1 win over the Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) in a nonconference men's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.
Augsburg trailed 1-0 after an MSOE goal in the 70th minute, but rallied to improve to 2-3-1 overall. MSOE drops to 1-5.
Greg Michalak (So., Brookfield, Wis.) put the Raiders in front on a goal from Fahd Bubshait (Sr., Saudi Arabia) and Jim Joling (Fr., Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.), firing the ball across from the right side to the net.
Augsburg's two top scorers gave the hosts the win in the final eight minutes of play. Riedel started the scoring on a give-and-go feed from 15 yards out from
Matt Lachner (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) in the 82nd minute, then Riedel was part of a three-way feed with
Steve Gehrmann * (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) to Elcano from 10 yards out with just 1:12 left in regulation time..
Both Riedel and Elcano have four goals on the season to lead the Auggies.
Han Zeller (Jr., Winona, Minn.) started the first half in goal for Augsburg and made four saves;
Chad Clausen (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) made two saves in the second half and scored the win in goal. Scott Petricek (So., Woodridge, Ill.) made six saves in a losing effort for MSOE. Augsburg outshot MSOE by a 22-11 margin.
Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday (9/18) at 7 p.m., hosting St. Mary's at Edor Nelson Field. MSOE plays at Concordia-River Forest (Ill.) next Sunday (9/22) at 1 p.m.
