ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/3/02) -- Jill Kalvik (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) and Valerie Olson (Fr., Spring Valley, Minn.) had 11 kills apiece, leading Concordia University-St. Paul to a three-game sweep of Augsburg College in a nonconference women's volleyball match Tuesday night at Concordia's Gangelhoff Center.

The NCAA Division II Golden Bears hit .283 as a team, while Division III Augsburg struggled to a .110 attack percentage. Concordia out-killed Augsburg by a 43-22 margin to improve to 3-2 overall. Augsburg drops to 0-2 on the season.

Concordia dominated throughout the first two games, leading from start to finish. In the second game, Concordia built leads of 6-0 and 21-8 to cruise to the easy win.

However, Augsburg played its best game of the season so far in the third game of the match, taking a 13-11 lead and tying the game at 18-18 before Concordia pulled away late.

Concordia took advantage of 13 service aces -- four by Mandy Horazdovsky (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) -- while scoring 12 team blocks to Augsburg's seven. Tia Lindberg (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) and Joy Wubben (So., Prinsburg, Minn.) led the Golden Bears with seven blocks (two solo) each.

Augsburg struggled in the match, hitting just .110 with only 22 kills and 13 attack errors. Augsburg had just 14 assists in the match.

Linnea Evans (Fr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) led the Auggies with six kills, five digs and a block solo, while Kristy Larson (So., Pine Island, Minn.) and Lisa Miller (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.) had four kills each. Miller added four block solos, while Larson had two block solos.

Libero Alli Burgess (Jr., Soudan, Minn./Tower-Soudan HS) led the Auggies with nine digs, while Alexis Johnson (Fr., Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) and Foster had eight digs apiece.

Augsburg returns to action on Friday and Saturday (9/6-7), hosting the Augsburg Invitational at Si Melby Hall. Augsburg's first match is against St. Scholastica on Friday at 4 p.m. Concordia-St. Paul returns to action on Friday and Saturday at the Grand Valley State (Mich.) Tournament.
