Women's Basketball 1/11/03 -- St. Olaf 59, Augsburg 51

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/11/03) -- St. Olaf College rallied from a 26-17 halftime deficit, outscoring visiting Augsburg College 42-25 in the second half in claiming a 59-51 triumph in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Skoglund Center.
Sara Erickson (Sr., Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Kelly Sweeney (Jr., Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) had 13 points, four assists and four steals for St. Olaf, now 2-8 overall and 2-6 in MIAC play. Augsburg broke a two-game winning streak in falling to 4-7 overall and 3-5 in MIAC play.
Augsburg led by as many as 10 points in the first half and by nine points at the break, but a 13-4 run in the first six minutes of the second half brought them made it a new ballgame, with a 30-30 tie with 13:38 remaining. The teams traded leads over the next five minutes, before the Oles went on a 12-2 run to take a commanding 56-46 lead with 3:35 left. Sweeney had five points in the game-deciding run.
Augsburg turned the ball over 27 times, including seven times in the Ole 12-2, game-winning run. St. Olaf also outrebounded Augsburg 44-39.
St. Olaf's Mayme Cupke (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.) had 11 points, while Natalie Rigelman (Fr., Lake City, Minn.) had eight points and Jill Johnson (Jr., Butterfield, Minn./St. James HS) had 12 rebounds.
Augsburg was paced by
Britni Morgan (Jr., Brooklyn Center, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS), who had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Julie Andert * (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) had 13 points and seven rebounds,
Alicia Pratt (Jr., Duluth, Minn./Duluth Cenral HS) had eight points, and
Katie Kelsey (So., Burnsville, Minn.) had seven points.
Both teams return to MIAC action on Wednesday (1/15) at 7:30 p.m., with Augsburg hosting St. Mary's and St. Olaf playing at Macalester.
