Women's Hockey 1/16/03 -- St. Olaf 4, Augsburg 3 (OT)

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/16/03) -- Erin Baxter (So., Rosemount, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal at the 2:31 mark of overtime, giving St. Olaf College a 4-3 victory over Augsburg in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Thursday night at the Northfield Ice Arena.
Baxter's goal, on an assist from Lindsay Weier (Fr., Menomonie, Wis.), gave St. Olaf its first-ever win over Augsburg in five varsity games. The Oles improved to 5-9-2 overall and 3-5-1 in MIAC play. Augsburg saw a five-game (4-0-1) unbeaten streak snapped in dropping to 7-8-1 overall and 5-4-0 in MIAC play.
St. Olaf, which was outshot 28-21, never led until getting the game-winner in overtime. The Oles tied the game at 3-3 with 4:14 left in regulation, when Sarah Ray (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) scored a power-play goal from Kate Barnett (So., Burnsville, Minn.). St. Olaf went 1-for-2 on the power play against the Auggies, while Augsburg was 0-for-4.
Augsburg opened the scoring at the 4:40 mark of the first period, when
Genevieve Allegrezza (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska/Service HS) scored on an assist from
Lauren Chezick (So., Hastings, Minn.). The Oles tied the game at the 13:29 mark, when Barnett scored on an assist from Kayla Wente (So., Waterloo, Iowa).
Augsburg took the lead again just 50 seconds later, when Chezick scored on an assist from
Annie Annunziato (Jr., Commack, N.Y.) and
Laura Prasek (So., Fridley, Minn.), but St. Olaf tied the game 46 seconds after that, when Weier scored on feeds from Barnett and Wente.
The game remained tied until early in the third period, when Augsburg took a 3-2 advantage on a goal from
Christina Hughes (Jr., Chaska, Minn.), on feeds from Angie Bergeson (Fr., Red Wing, Minn.) and
Corrie Krzyska (So., Fridley, Minn.).
Kerry Rollwagen (So., Mendota Heights, Minn.) scored the win, making 25 saves.
Katie Fedoryk (Jr., Austin, Minn.) made 17 saves in a losing effort.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/18) at 2:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
