Auggies triumph with 58-55 overtime win over Bethel!

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (1/6/03) -- Britni Morgan (Jr., Brooklyn Center, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) scored 16 points, including the game-clinching three-pointer with five seconds remaining in overtime, as Augsburg College claimed a 58-55 win over Bethel College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Monday night at Bethel's Robertson Center.

Morgan hit four 3-pointers in the game to lead the Auggies, who improved to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in MIAC play, breaking a two-game losing streak. Bethel drops to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in MIAC play.

Leading by as many as 15 points in the first half and by a 32-21 margin at halftime, Augsburg led for nearly the entire second half, but Bethel outscored Augsburg by a 13-2 margin in the final 8:04 of regulation to force the overtime.

Augsburg outscored Bethel 9-6 in the extra session. Alicia Pratt (Jr., Duluth, Minn./Duluth Cenral HS) scored four points in the overtime for the Auggies , while Ashley Sasek (So., Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) had a basket.

Augsburg outrebounded Bethel by a 56-52 margin, as neither team shot well from the field. Augsburg connected on just 33.3 percent (23-of-69) of its field goals and hit 6-of-11 from the free-throw line, while Bethel hit just 30.1 percent (22-of-73) from the field and connected on just 10-of-24 free throw attempts.

Sasek and Julie Andert * (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) had 10 points apiece, with Andert pulling down eight rebounds and Sasek contributing six rebounds and four assists. Pratt had nine points and four rebounds, and Megan Wetzell * (Jr., Wells, Minn./United South Central HS) had seven rebounds. Katie Kelsey (So., Burnsville, Minn.) had six points and six rebounds.

Bethel was led by Michelle Rogne, who had 11 points and nine rebounds. Anna Cunningham had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Katie Stensrud had 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists, and Stef Smith had 10 points.


Both teams return to MIAC action on Wednesday (1/8) at 7:30 p.m., with Augsburg hosting Hamline and Bethel playing at St. Olaf.
