Gustavus records three-game sweep over Augsburg

ST. PETER, Minn. (10/15/03) -- Jessica Schaetzke had 13 kills and hit .310, leading Gustavus Adolphus College to a three-game sweep of Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Wednesday night at Gustavus' Gus Young Court.

The Gusties claimed a three-game sweep, 30-25, 30-20 and 30-19 to improve to 16-6 overall, 4-3 in MIAC play. Augsburg drops to 2-17 overall and 0-7 in MIAC play, losing its sixth match in a row. Augsburg has lost its last 16 MIAC matches in a row, dating back to last season.

Schaetzke had just four errors in 29 attempts, converting 13 kills. She added five digs and a block. Jami Moseng had 10 kills, hitting 292, with two blocks (one solo) and a service ace.

As a team, Gustavus hit .292 in the match, including hitting .325 (17 kills, four errors in 40 attempts) in the first game and .478 (12 kills, one error in 23 attempts) in the final game.

Meanwhile, Augsburg's hitting woes continued, as the Auggies hit just .106 in the match -- 31 kills and 20 errors in 104 attempts. In addition, Augsburg had 11 service errors and allowed 12 Gustavus service aces in the match.

Anne Osthus had eight kills and five service aces for the Gusties, while Nicole Nesseth had four aces. Rachael Batalden had 36 assits, four kills and five digs. Tara Houlihan had 19 digs and four kills.

Augsburg was led by Linnea Evans (So., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS), who had 12 kills and nine digs. Elsie Ginsberg (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) had 10 kills and three blocks (one solo).

Alexis Johnson (So., Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) had 19 assists and two service aces, with Anna Piermantier (Sr., Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) adding eight assists and two aces. Alli Burgess (Sr., Soudan, Minn./Tower-Soudan HS) had nine digs.

Both teams are back in action on Friday (10/17) at 7:30 p.m. in MIAC play. Augsburg hosts St. Catherine at Si Melby Hall, while Gustavus plays at Concordia-Moorhead.
