BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS (10/22/03) -- Jeremy Schultz (Sr., Walton, Neb./Waverly HS) scored the game-winning goal two minutes into the second overtime on Wednesday night, as Carleton College claimed a 1-0 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer match at Edor Nelson Field.

Damian Winters (Sr., Concord, Mass./Concord Academy HS) sprinted down the deep left side on a break, then fed Schultz, who was streaking up the middle of the penalty box. He fired a shot past Augsburg goalkeeper Chad Clausen (So., St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) in the 102nd minute to claim the victory.

Carleton improves to 9-5-0 overall and 4-4-0 in MIAC play with the victory. Augsburg drops to 4-10-2 overall, 0-8-1 in MIAC play. Augsburg is winless in its last 10 games in a row, with eight losses and two ties. The Auggies have been shut out in their last six straight games, and Augsburg's scoreless streak is now at 641 straight minutes, spanning seven games.

Carleton outshot Augsburg by a 27-14 margin, including an 8-1 advantage in the two overtimes. Carleton had 11 shots on goal.

While Augsburg had 14 shots, none were on net. Carleton goalkeeper Andy Cave (Sr., Portland, Ore./Lincoln HS) improved to 6-0-0 on the season with his second shutout of the year, though he did not have to make a save during the game.

Augsburg goalkeeper Lucas Grant (Jr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska Area HS) played the first half and made four saves. Clausen was inserted in the second half and made six saves in his 56:05 in goal.

Augsburg's best scoring chance came in the final two minutes of regulation, as an Auggie missed a header at a virtually open net, coming off a nearly perfect free kick from 40 yards out. Augsburg had to play the last 32 minutes of the game short a player, after a player was ejected after receiving his second yellow card.

Both teams return to nonconference action on Saturday (10/25) at 1 p.m., with Augsburg playing at Wisconsin-Superior and Carleton playing at Colorado College
