SUPERIOR, Wis. (11/8/03) -- Randall Smisko scored a hat trick and added an assist for a four-point night, one of three University of Wisconsin-Superior players to have four-point evenings, as the Yellowjackets blasted visiting Augsburg College 10-2 in a nonconference men's hockey game Friday night at Wessman Arena.

Dale Lupui had one goal and three assists, while Yann Poirier had four assists for Superior, now 5-1-0 overall. Meanwhile, Augsburg drops to 0-3 on the season, having been outscored 21-7 in its first three games.

Dave Nelson (So., Woodbury, Minn./South St. Paul HS) and Steve Collova (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored goals for the Auggies.

Superior outshot Augsburg by a 52-16 margin in the game, sticking the most goals on the Auggies in a single game since a 9-5 loss to Plattsburgh State (N.Y.) on March 21, 1998.

Smisko, Beau Moyer and Lupui scored for Superior in the first period, Smisko's goal on a power play. At the 6:05 mark of the second period, Nelson scored on the power play for the Auggies, on assists from Tony Beaulieu (Fr., Rush City, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Collin Nash (Sr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS).

But after Nelson's goal, Superior scored four straight goals in a span of 7:39. Beau Moyer and Michael Wiggins scored, with Smisko adding two straight goals for his hat trick.

Collova scored an unassisted goal at the 1:39 mark of the third period to cut the lead to 7-2, but Superior scored three goals in the final 4:09 to notch the rout. Ryan Konkel and Derek Miller scored, with Wiggins adding his second goal of the game on the power play.

Erik Young (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) played the first two periods in goal for Augsburg, making 32 saves and giving up seven goals. David Nash (So., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) played the third period, making 10 saves and allowing three goals. Mathieu Bonnelly scored the win in goal for Superior, making 14 saves.

Augsburg finishes its nonconference weekend in the Twin Ports on Saturday (11/15), playing at St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn., at 7:05 p.m. Superior hosts Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Wessman Arena.
