Brad Bjorgum (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) scored in the first period for Augsburg College, and
Erik Young (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) made 25 saves in goal to preserve the tie, as Augsburg College claimed a 1-1 overtime tie with the College of St. Scholastica in a nonconference men's hockey game Saturday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
Augsburg broke a three-game, season-opening losing streak with the draw to move to 0-3-1 on the year. St. Scholastica is now 3-2-2 on the season.
Bjorgum scored just 1:31 into the game, on assists from
Chad Baldwin (Fr., International Falls, Minn.) and
Steve Belde (Jr., Lake Elmo, Minn./Hill-Murray HS). St. Scholastica's Dustin Sieben tied the game at the 14:01 mark of the first period, on assists from Cale Finseth and Scott Honkola.
But after that, neither team could put the puck in the net. St. Scholastica outshot Augsburg by a 26-24 margin, with Young making 25 saves for Augsburg and Corey Wogtech making 23 saves for St. Scholastica. Augsburg was 0-for-4 on power plays in the game.
After its first four games on the road, Augsburg returns to the friendly confines of Augsburg Ice Arena for a two-game nonconference weekend set on Friday (11/21) and Saturday (11/22). Friday's game is against Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 8:05 p.m., part of a men's and women's hockey doubleheader. The Auggie women host Hamline at 5:05 p.m. Saturday's men's hockey game is against Wisconsin-Stevens Point, at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
