ROSEVILLE, Minn. (11/29/03) -- Lisa Neufeld (Sr., Lustre, Mont.) set a Northwestern College-Roseville school record by hitting eight 3-pointers, scoring 28 points to lead all scorers as the host Eagles rallied for an 84-69 victory over Augsburg College in a nonconference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Ericksen Center.
Neufeld went 8-of-9 from three-point range and an astonishing 10-of-11 from the field to score her 28 points, adding a team-high four assists and two steals, as Northwestern improved to 2-4 overall. Augsburg remains winless at 0-2 overall.
Augsburg opened a game with a bang, as
Selina Theisen (Fr., Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) scored 12 of her team-high 23 points in the first nine minutes of play, leading Augsburg out of the gate with a 21-9 lead with 11:05 remaining in the first half.
But Northwestern rallied back with a 19-3 run over the next four-and-a-half minutes, taking a 28-24 advantage with 6:49 left in the period. Fifteen of the 19 points came on three-pointers, with Neufeld connecting on three of them.
As a team, Northwestern-Roseville hit 13-of-19 from beyond the three-point arc.
The teams tied the game six times and exchanged leads 12 times in the game, six lead changes and two ties in the first half.
Leading 43-40 at halftime, Northwestern pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Auggies 27-10 over the first 12 minutes of the second half to take a 70-50 advantage. Northwestern led by as many as 23 points in the second half, before Augsburg rallied back to cut the lead to 13 points in the closing minutes.
Five Eagles scored in double figures, led by Neufeld's 28. Sara Tonneson (Sr., Souris, N.D.) had 19 points, Jen Adamson (So., Fargo, N.D.) had two 3-pointers and 14 points, and Joni Parrish (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) and Maggie Chandler (So., Elbow Lake, Minn.) had 10 points apiece. Aubree Levinski (Jr., Cloquet, Minn.) had eight rebounds and Andrea Kramer (Jr., Stratford, Wis.) had seven rebounds.
For Augsburg, Theisen's 23 points and five rebounds led the way. She also had two blocked shots.
Julie Andert * (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) had 14 points and four rebounds, while
Ashley Sasek (Jr., Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) had eight points, three assists and three steals.
Emily Anderson (So., Hudson, Wis.) had six points, four steals and two assists, and
Aili Brom-Palkowski (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) had four assists.
As a team, Augsburg hit 49.1 percent from the field (28-of-57), but connected on just 3-of-14 three-pointers and 10-of-18 free throws. Augsburg also had 20 turnovers in the game. Both teams had 27 rebounds in the game. Northwestern connected on 52.7 percent of its field goals (29-of-55).
Augsburg returns to action on Sunday (11/30) with a 3 p.m. nonconference game at Wisconsin-Superior. Northwestern returns to action next Friday (12/5) at the Cardinal Stritch tournament in Milwaukee, Wis.
