ASHLAND, Wis. (2/14/03) --
Jaro Cesky (Sr., Prague, Czech Republic) and
David May (So., Burnsville, Minn.) scored two goals apiece, leading Augsburg College to a 9-0 blanking of host Northland College in a nonconference men's hockey game on Friday night.
Augsburg, which completed its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule last weekend, improved to 16-8-0 with the victory, while Northland, a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association member, drops to 3-17-2 overall, losing its third straight game and 13th in its last 15 games.
A six-goal second period blew the game open and earned the Auggies the rout. In addition to the two goals apiece by Cesky and May, Augsburg gained goals from
Dave Nelson (Fr., Woodbury, Minn./South St. Paul HS),
Matt Svidron (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.),
Brad Keogh (Sr., Lake Shore, Minn./Mankato West HS),
Cody Swanson (Fr., Vermillion, Minn./Hastings HS) and
Brad Bjorgum (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS).
Matt Parnell (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had two assists for the Auggies, while Keogh and Svidron added a goal each for two-point nights. Other assists came from
Ben Sandvik (Fr., Rochester, Minn./Century HS),
Shawn Smith (Sr., Temagami, Ont./E.C. Drury HS),
Joe Pontrelli (Jr., Eagan, Minn.),
Chris Lorenz (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) and
Tarik Yumusaklar (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.).
Augsburg's
Pete Samargia (Sr., Gilbert, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and
Erik Young (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) combined for the win, with Samargia making 12 saves in 29 minutes and Young making 10 saves in 30 minutes.
The teams finish the series on Saturday (2/15) at 2 p.m. in Ashland. The game will be the last of the regular season for Augsburg.
