Women's Hockey 2/14/03 -- Augsburg 4, St. Catherine 4 (OT)

ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/14/03) -- Scoring twice with the goalie pulled in the final 42 seconds of regulation time, Augsburg College tied the game and held on for a 4-4 overtime tie with the host College of St. Catherine in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey game Friday night at the Drake Ice Arena.
Down 4-2 in the final minute of the third period, Augsburg scored twice in a 16-second span after pulling the goalie for an extra skater.
Lauren Chezick (So., Hastings, Minn.) scored on an assist from
Melynda Kleewein (So., Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond HS) at the 19:18 mark, and
Laura Prasek (So., Fridley, Minn.) scored from
Annie Annunziato (Jr., Commack, N.Y.) and Chezick at the 19:34 mark to tie the game in dramatic fashion.
Both teams played a scoreless five minutes of overtime to earn the draw, moving Augsburg to 10-10-2 overall and 8-6-1 in conference play. St. Catherine is now 9-9-4 overall and 7-6-2 in MIAC play. The teams finish the MIAC series on Saturday (2/15) at 2:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Augsburg scored first, on Annunziato's unassisted goal at the 8:24 mark of the first period, but the teams played scoreless hockey until the final 18 minutes of regulation time, when the teams combined for seven goals.
Katie Eichten (Jr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) put St. Catherine on the board at the 2:09 mark of the third period. Augsburg took the lead back on a goal from
Hannah Dietrich (So., Luverne, Minn.) from Kleewein and Chezick.
The Wildcats then took the lead with two goals in a 22-second span -- from Debralyn Bryant (Fr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) at the 11:59 mark and from Deidre Lindstrom (So., Benson, Minn.) at the 12:21 mark.
Kim Hayes (Sr., South St. Paul, Minn.) gave the Wildcats a 4-2 lead with a goal at the 18:24 mark, on a feed from Lindstrom. Lindstrom had two assists for a three-point night, while Eichten added an assist, as did Angie Carstenbrock (So., South St. Paul, Minn.).
The teams played an even game, with St. Catherine outshooting Augsburg by a 26-25 margin.
Katie Fedoryk (Jr., Austin, Minn.) made 22 saves for Augsburg, with Morgan Kane (Fr., Apple Valley, Minn.) making 21 saves for St. Catherine.
