Concordia-Moorhead pulls away in second half, tops Augsburg 62-53.

MINNEAPOLIS (2/19/03) -- Kasey Bostow (Sr., Fargo, N.D./South HS) led all scorers with 18 points, leading Concordia College-Moorhead to a 62-53 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.

Debbie Slack (Jr., Evansville, Minn.) added eight points, 13 rebounds and four steals for the Cobbers, who clinched a berth in the six-team MIAC postseason playoffs with the win, finishing the regular season with a 13-12 overall record and 11-11 MIAC mark.

Augsburg has lost 14 games in a row to fall to 4-20 overall and 3-17 in MIAC play. Augsburg finishes its season on Saturday (2/22) with a 3 p.m. game at St. Catherine.

The game was a close one early, as every Concordia rally was matched by one from Augsburg. The Cobbers led 31-26 at halftime.

However, after Augsburg took a 32-31 lead on two straight three-pointers by Ashley Vossen (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) in the first two minutes of the second half, the Cobbers went on a 15-4 run over the next seven minutes, taking a commanding 10-point, 46-36 lead with 11:12 remaining. Beth Drager (Jr., Wood Lake, Minn./Lakeview HS) had six points in the Cobber run. The Auggies could not cut the lead under seven points the rest of the way.

Drager had 11 points and five rebounds for the Cobbers, while Trisha Steinborn (Jr., Jamestown, N.D.) had nine points, four asssits and two steals. Jamie Stensgard (So., Fargo, N.D./Oak Grove HS) had seven points and five steals.

Augsburg committed 25 turnovers, the 17th time this season Augsburg has committed 19 or more miscues. Concordia converted 25 points off of Augsburg turnovers, compared to 11 Augsburg points converted off of 18 Concordia turnovers.

The Auggies were paced by Vossen, who hit four 3-pointers to score a career-high 17 points as the lone Auggie in double figures. She also had four steals. Rosinta Stromquist (Fr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had eight points, Missy Larson (Fr., Pine Island, Minn.) had six points and six rebounds, and Ashley Sasek (So., Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) had five points and four steals.

Julie Andert * (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) had a team-high 10 rebounds, and Shannon Spears (Sr., Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS), Augsburg's lone senior, closed her career with a four-point, four-rebound effort.
