Augsburg finishes season with 77-51 loss at St. Catherine.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/22/03) -- Kate Stodolka led all scorers with 22 points and seven assists, leading the College of St. Catherine to a season-ending, 77-51 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Butler Center.

Jenna Martin had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Holly Wiste had 10 points, three assists and three steals for the Wildcats, who finished 14-11 overall and 11-11 in MIAC play. The Wildcats finished in a three-way tie for fifth place in the MIAC with St. Mary's and Concordia-Moorhead, but the Wildcats were eliminated from the six-team MIAC postseason playoffs on tiebreaker criteria.

Augsburg finished its season at 4-21 overall and 3-18 in MIAC play, losing its last 15 games in a row.

An 8-0 run gave the Wildcats an early 12-4 lead, an advantage the hosts would not relinquish the rest of the way. Augsburg cut the lead to two points, 22-20 with 6:31 left in the first half, but St. Catherine ran off nine unanswered points to take an 31-20 lead and a 33-25 advantage at halftime.

Augsburg cut the lead to single digits again in the second half with a 20-6 scoring run, trimming the advantage to six points, 45-39 with 11:47 left. However, the Wildcats immediately went on a 10-1 run over the next four minutes, and stretched the lead to the 26-point margin of victory over the final seven minutes of play.

Natalie Lyzhoft had seven points, six assists and four rebounds for the Wildcats, while Katie Jones had six points and seven rebounds, and Amy Pommerening had seven points, four rebounds and three assists.

Augsburg had just one scorer in double figures -- Julie Andert * (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.), who had 10 points and five rebounds. Rosinta Stromquist (Fr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had eight points and eight rebounds.

Missy Larson (Fr., Pine Island, Minn.) had eight points and six rebounds, and Ashley Vossen (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) had eight points and two steals. Megan Wetzell * (Jr., Wells, Minn./United South Central HS) had a game-high 10 rebounds for the Auggies.

Augsburg outrebounded St. Catherine by a 53-34 margin, but hit just 27.6 percent (16-of-58) from the field and committed 30 turnovers. St. Catherine converted those turnovers into 31 points, compared to 10 Augsburg points converted off of 13 Wildcat miscues. St. Catherine hit 43.1 percent (28-of-65) from the field.
