Women's Basketball 2/5/03 -- Bethel 68, Augsburg 54

MINNEAPOLIS (2/5/03) -- Michelle Rogne (Sr., Minot, N.D./Des Lacs Burlington HS) claimed a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, leading Bethel College past host Augsburg College 68-54 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Monday night at Si Melby Hall.
Rogne joined two other Royals to score in double figures -- Kristin Lundeen (Sr., Becker, Minn.) with 17 points and Katie Stensrud (Jr., Waseca, Minn.) with 16 points, as the Royals improved to 5-15 overall and 4-13 in MIAC play.
Augsburg dropped to 4-16 overall and 3-14 in MIAC play, losing its 10th game in a row.
Bethel took the lead for good midway through the first half, outscoring Augsburg 21-9 over the final 11:36 of the period to take a 37-28 lead into the locker room. Augsburg cut the lead to six points in the first three minutes of the second half, but the Royals slowly pulled away, leading by as many as 17 points in the final minutes.
The Royals took advantage of 23 Augsburg turnovers, converting them into 16 points. The Royals also converted from the field, hitting 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the field, compared to just 37.5 percent (21-of-56) for Augsburg. Bethel also scored 15 points from the free-throw line, compared to seven for Augsburg.
In addition to her 16 points, Stensrud had six assists and five rebounds. Lundeen had three 3-pointers for the Royals. Anna Cunningham (Fr., Burnsville, Minn./Trinity School at River Ridge) had eight points and nine rebounds.
Augsburg had just one player in double figures --
Ashley Sasek (So., Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) tying a personal season high with 15 points.
Rosinta Stromquist (Fr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS),
Alicia Pratt (Jr., Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) and
Ashley Vossen (Fr., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) had eight points apiece.
Britni Morgan (Jr., Brooklyn Center, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) hit two 3-pointers and scored seven points.
Both teams return to MIAC action on Saturday (2/8) at 3 p.m., with Augsburg playing at Hamline and Bethel hosting St. Olaf.
