WAVERLY, Iowa (8/29/03) -- Scott Hill and Verne Houston scored two goals apiece for Wartburg College, as the Knights claimed a 4-1 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a nonconference men's soccer match on Friday afternoon at the Wartburg Soccer Complex. The game was the season-opener for both teams.

Hill scored twice in the first half, while Houston scored just before halftime and 15 minutes into the second half for the Knights.

Augsburg's lone goal came from Clarke Athman (Jr., St. Joseph, Minn.), who scored from Jason Clark (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) in the 62nd minute.

Lucas Grant (Jr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska Area HS) gave up three goals in the first half before being relieved by Han Zeller (Sr., Winona, Minn.), who made one save and gave up a goal in the second half. Wartburg outshot Augsburg by an 11-10 margin, with Collin Lane making five saves.

Augsburg finishes its season-opening trip on Sunday (8/31), with a 12 noon game at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Wartburg faces Clarke College in a nonconference game on Monday (9/1) at 3 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
