WAVERLY, Iowa (8/29/03) --
Laura Hoffman (Sr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) made five saves to record her 17th career shutout in goal, and
Heidi Hilleren (Sr., Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored two goals and had an assist to top the 40-point mark in her career, leading Augsburg College to a 5-0 women's soccer victory over host Wartburg College on Friday afternoon at the Wartburg Soccer Complex. The nonconference game was the first of the season for both teams.
Hoffman, who was one of the best goalkeepers in Division III women's soccer last season, continued her pursuit of Augsburg's goalkeeping records. Her 17 career shutouts are second in school history to Beth Petrik, who had 26 from 1995-98.
Meanwhile, Hilleren notched two goals and an assist to move her career point total to 42. She now has 13 career goals (ninth in school history) and 16 career assists (fifth in school history). The school's career point record is 88 (31 goals, 26 assists), set by Kara Seibel from 1991-95.
Augsburg outshot Wartburg by a 19-12 mark, scoring four goals on nine shots in the second half. Hilleren scored two unassisted goals in the final 14 minutes of play to cap the Auggie scoring.
Augsburg opened the scoring with
Emily Anderson (Fr., Hudson, Wis.), who notched her first career goal on an assist from
Millie Suk (So., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) in the 33rd minute.
Augsburg scored twice in a 26-second span early in the second half. At the 51:24 mark,
Kristi Ofstad (Sr., Rapid City, S.D./Stevens HS) scored on an assist from Hilleren, and at the 51:50 mark,
Carla Giuliani (Fr., Whitefish Bay, Wis./Dominican HS) scored her first career goal from Anderson.
Augsburg finishes its season-opening trip on Saturday (8/30), with a 3:30 p.m. game at Central College in Pella, Iowa. Wartburg faces Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa on Monday (9/1) at 1 p.m.
