BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS (9/12/03) -- Aaron Riedel (So., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) continued his hot scoring streak with the lone goal of the game in the 76th minute, and Lucas Grant (Jr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska Area HS) made five saves to score his third shutout of the season in goal, as Augsburg College claimed a 1-0 win over the Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) in a nonconference men's soccer game Friday evening at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

Augsburg picked up its fourth victory in a row in improving to 4-2 on the season. MSOE lost its first game of the season to fall to 2-1-1 overall.

Riedel has scored a goal in his last three games in a row, notching his team-leading sixth tally of the season on a blast off a free kick by Jason Clark (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) from the left of the penalty box with 14:08 left in the contest.

The game was a story of two halves. MSOE held a 10-7 advantage in shots in the first half and maintained an edge in possession. But in the second half, Augsburg dominated, claiming a 17-1 shots edge and pouring the attack on the MSOE defense. Raiders goalkeeper Dan Nelson (So., New Berlin, Wis.) made five of his nine saves in the second half.

Riedel had five shots in the contest, while teammate Mike Elcano (Jr., Sparks, Nev./Bishop Manogue HS) had seven shots. MSOE was paced by Kou Xiong (Fr., Milwaukee, Wis.), who had five shots.

Both teams return to nonconference action on Sunday (9/14), with Augsburg hosting Viterbo (Wis.) in a 3 p.m. game at Edor Nelson Field. MSOE stays in the Twin Cities, playing at Hamline on Sunday at 1 p.m.
