Noah Turner (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) tied the game 91 seconds later for Augsburg College, as the two teams played to a 1-1, two-overtime tie in a nonconference men's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.
Augsburg saw its unbeaten streak stretched to five straight games in moving to 4-2-1 on the season, while Viterbo broke a five-game losing streak with the draw, moving to 0-5-1 on the year.
With six minutes remaining in the second half, Viterbo broke the scoreless tie with its first goal of the season, after being shut out in its first five losses. Kahil Taylor (Jr., Madison, Wis.) sent a lead pass down the right side to Ian Blum (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis.), who crossed the ball in front to Moore, who headed the ball past Augsburg goalkeeper
Han Zeller (Sr., Winona, Minn.) for the first goal of the game.
But a minute-and-a-half later, Augsburg tied the game off a free kick by
Aaron Riedel (So., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS).
Mike Elcano (Jr., Sparks, Nev./Bishop Manogue HS) retrieved the free kick from the left side of the net, redirecting it to Turner, who slipped the ball past Viterbo goalkeeper Dustin Naugle (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) for his second goal of the season.
Neither team could score in the 20 minutes of overtime, with Augsburg getting six shots and Viterbo four in the extra sessions. Augsburg outshot Viterbo by a 28-16 margin in the game, including a 15-8 edge in the second half.
Naugle made seven saves in a complete-game effort for the V-Hawks.
Lucas Grant (Jr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska Area HS) started in goal for Augsburg and played the first half, making one save. Zeller made one save and allowed a goal in his 65 minutes of work.
The game was a physical one, as 44 total fouls were called -- 25 against Viterbo and 19 charged to Augsburg.
Both teams face Hamline University in their next contests. Augsburg opens up Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a home game against Hamline on Wednesday (9/17) at 7:30 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field, while Viterbo hosts Hamline in a nonconference game on Saturday (9/20) at 1 p.m.
