Men's Soccer 9/24/03 -- Augsburg 1, Concordia-Moorhead 1 (2OT)

MINNEAPOLIS (9/24/03) -- Welile Mhlanga (Jr., Mbabne, Swaziland) scored on a header in the 57th minute, as Concordia College-Moorhead rallied for a 1-1, two-overtime tie with Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer match Wednesday afternoon at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.

Concordia gave up an "own goal" in the 20th minute, as a Concordia defender passed a clearing attempt into his own net, giving Augsburg a 1-0 lead. But Mhlanga tied the game in the 57th minute, taking a cross from Judd Mann (So., Hastings, Minn.) and heading it past the Augsburg goalkeeper.

Concordia outshot Augsburg by a 21-12 margin, including a 6-5 margin in the two overtime periods. Augsburg had seven shots on goal, compared to six for Concordia.

Augsburg is now 4-4-2 overall and 0-2-1 in MIAC play, snapping a two-game losing streak. Concordia is now 3-3-2 overall and 0-1-2 in MIAC play.

Augsburg goalkeeper Lucas Grant (Jr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska Area HS) made five saves, while Concordia goalkeeper Kris Overby (Sr., Fargo, N.D./South HS) made six saves.

Jerry Nathan (Sr., Fargo, N.D./South HS) had seven shots to lead the Cobbers, while Aaron Riedel (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) had four shots to lead the Auggies.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Saturday (9/27) at 1 p.m., as Augsburg plays at St. Mary's and Concordia hosts Carleton.
