BOXSCORE
MINNEAPOLIS (9/5/03) --
Mike Elcano (Jr., Sparks, Nev./Bishop Manogue HS) scored two goals, and
Aaron Riedel (So., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) scored a goal and added an assist, as Augsburg College scored its second straight shutout victory, a 3-0 triumph over the College of St. Scholastica Friday evening in a nonconference men's soccer game at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.
Elcano scored both his goals in the second half, as Augsburg evened its record at 2-2 on the season. St. Scholastica drops to 1-1 on the year.
Lucas Grant (Jr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska Area HS), who returned to the Auggies after not playing last season, claimed his second straight shutout in goal -- and second of his career -- making six saves in a 90-minute effort.
Riedel opened the scoring for Augsburg on a set play, off a pass from
Clarke Athman (Jr., St. Joseph, Minn.) in the 39th minute.
Three minutes into the second half, Elcano scored his first goal of the game, coming on a cross from Riedel.
Elcano's second goal came after a clearing attempt by St. Scholastica, deep in its own territory, was deflected by
Matt Lachner (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.), who found a sprinting Elcano past the defense for an easy goal in the 83rd minute.
Craig Chapman (Fr., Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) made nine saves for St. Scholastica.
Augsburg outshot St. Scholastica by a 21-14 margin.
