Women's Basketball 1/17/04 -- Concordia-Moorhead 75, Augsburg 67

MINNEAPOLIS (1/17/04) -- Debbie Slack (Sr., Evansville, Minn.) claimed a double-double with 21 points and 18 rebounds, leading Concordia College-Moorhead to a 75-67 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.
Freshman center
Selina Theisen (Fr., Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) notched her eighth double-double of the season and fourth in her last five games for Augsburg (2-11 overall, 2-8 MIAC), scoring 23 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Theisen has now scored in double-figures in her last 12 straight games and has scored 20 or more points in seven games, including the last four in a row.
Concordia built a 12-point lead in the second half before Augsburg was able to rally back into the game, using a 15-4 run to tie the game at 60-60 with 5:26 remaining.
Ashley Vossen (So., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) had two 3-pointers for the Auggies in the run. Vossen ended up with 18 points, hitting five 3-pointers.
But Concordia scored the next 10 points of the game to increase the lead back to 10 points. Anne Keeley (Fr., Grafton, N.D.) scored five points and Slack had four points, all from the free-throw line, in the run that gave the Cobbers a 70-60 advantage with 1:37 left.
There were eight lead changes and three ties in the game. Concordia led 39-35 at halftime.
Missy Larson (So., Pine Island, Minn.) matched her previous career-high with 12 points for the Auggies.
Alissa Blood (Fr., Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) had six points and five rebounds.
Ashley Sasek (Jr., Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS)
Eleven of Slack's 21 points came from the free-throw line, as Slack went 11-of-12, Keeley added 11 points for the Cobbers, with five rebounds and three steals. Mandy Pearson (Jr., Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) had a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists.
Both teams return to action on Monday (1/19), with Concordia hosting St. Mary's at 5:30 p.m. and Augsburg playing at St. Catherine at 7:30 p.m.
