BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS (1/17/04) -- Sarah Ray (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal on a blast from the point off a draw four seconds into St. Olaf College's only power play of the game, lifting the Oles to a 2-1 victory over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey contest Saturday afternoon at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Ray got a pass at the point off a successful draw by Kate Barnett (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) and blasted the puck past Augsburg goalie Katie Fedoryk (Sr., Austin, Minn.) for the game-winner at the 8:13 mark of the third period.

St. Olaf claimed the series sweep with the victory, improving to 8-4-2 overall and 6-2-0 in MIAC play. Augsburg drops to 6-7-0 overall and 3-5-0 in MIAC play.

For the second straight game, Augsburg outshot the Oles. The Auggies had 31 shots to St. Olaf's 23 -- 71-49 in the series -- but St. Olaf goalie Kerry Rollwagen (Jr., Mendota Heights, Minn.) came up strong for the Oles, making 30 saves in goal to score the win.

All the scoring took place in the third period. Just 22 seconds into the period, Maria Richardson (Fr., New Brighton, Minn.) got a steal and put a blast under the Augsburg goalie's glove to give St. Olaf a 1-0 advantage on her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Augfsburg tied the game at 5:43 mark, as Lauren Chezick (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) scored her seventh goal of the season, taking a cross-ice pass from Annie Annunziato (Sr., Commack, N.Y.) and sprinting for the game-tying goal.

The Auggies were hampered on the power play, going 0-for-4 on the player advantage -- 0-for-6 in the series. Meanwhile, St. Olaf went 3-for-3 on its power plays on the weekend.

The teams return to action next weekend with league series. St. Olaf faces Gustavus, while Augsburg faces St. Mary's. Friday's (1/23) game is at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena, with Saturday's (1/24) game at 2:05 p.m. at the SMU Ice Arena in Winona, Minn.
