Gustavus opens game on 28-2 run, never looks back in 89-47 rout of Augsburg.

ST. PETER, Minn. (1/21/04) -- The Gustavus Adolphus College women's basketball team remained undefeated at home (7-0) with a convincing 89-47 victory over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Wednesday night at Gus Young Court.

The Gusties improve to 12-3 overall and 10-2 in the MIAC, while the Auggies fall to 3-12 overall and 3-9 in the MIAC.

The Gusties held the Auggies to two points for eight minutes in the first half as they went on a 26-0 run. The Gustie full-court press and solid team defense forced 20 turnovers and created a 30-point lead at the intermission (47-17). Gustavus started the second half with a 10-0 run and had no signs of slowing down, leading by as many as 48 points down the stretch.

Jennifer Klohs (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park HS) led the Gusties in scoring with 19 points. Angie Peterson (Sr., Northfield, Minn.) followed with 16 points, and Kristin Kachelmyer (Jr., Mankato, Minn./East HS) contributed 12 points.

Augsburg was paced by Ashley Vossen (So., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS), who had 14 points. Katie Kelsey (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) scored 10 poitns and had nine rebounds.

Freshman center Selina Theisen (Fr., Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) broke her double-double streak at four, scoring 11 points and pulling down five rebounds. Theisen has now scored in double-figures in her last 14 straight games.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Saturday (1/24) at 1 p.m., with Gustavus playing at Concordia-Moorhead and Augsburg playing at Carleton. Both games are men's and women's doubleheaders, with the women's games starting at 1 p.m. and the men's game following at 3 p.m.
