Men's Hockey 1/3/04 -- Augsburg 5, Marian College (Wis.) 2

Fond du Lac, Wis. (1/3/04) -- Steve Collova (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Brad Bjorgum (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) each had a goal and an assist as the Auggies claimed their first victory of the season agains Marian College.

Marian started the action first with a power play goal by Mark Williams (Jr., Green Bay, Wis.). Augsburg took it from there as they finished the first period strong with three goals in the final 5 minutes. Cody Swanson (So., Vermillion, Minn./Hastings HS) tied the game up and Collova scored his goal with an assist from Jake Wegscheider (Sr., Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS). Wegscheider returned to the Auggies lineup with half a season of eligibility remaining.

After a scoreless second period, Marian pulled within one, but that would be as close as they got as Augsburg had goals from David May (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) and Brady Fougner (So., International Falls, Minn.).

Erik Young (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had 36 saves in the game as the Auggies were outshot 38-22.

The second game of the weekend series is on Sunday, Jan. 4th with a face off time of 2:30 p.m.
