Critter Nagurski scores twice, Augsburg claims 2-2 overtime tie at St. Olaf.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/30/04) -- Critter Nagurski (Fr., International Falls, Minn.) claimed his first career two-goal game, scoring twice in the second period to lead Augsburg College in a 2-2, overtime tie with host St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Friday night at the Northfield Ice Arena.

Augsburg snapped a two-game losing streak in moving to 5-9-3 overall, 3-4-2 in MIAC play. St. Olaf drops to 6-7-3 overall, 3-2-2 in MIAC play.

Nagurski scored at the 1:51 mark of the second period, on assists from Blake Dronen (Fr., Chaska, Minn.) and goalie Erik Young (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.). He added his second goal of the game at the 10:44 mark, on a feed from Dave Nelson (So., Woodbury, Minn./South St. Paul HS).

But St. Olaf tied the game with two third-period goals, and the teams could not score in overtime. Josh Biser scored from Joel Ihrie and Ron Guild at the 2:05 mark, and Guild scored from Dan Norsten and Keith Townsend at the 16:20 mark.

Augsburg had three shots on goal in overtime, while St. Olaf had two shots. In the game, St. Olaf outshot Augsburg by a 40-38 margin. Young made 38 saves to score the tie for the Auggies, while Garret Hasti made 36 saves for St. Olaf.

The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (1/31) at 7:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
