Stacy Anderson scores OT game-winner, Corrie Krzyska scores twice as Augsburg upsets national No. 6 Wisconsin-Superior

MINNEAPOLIS (1/30/04) -- Stacy Anderson (Fr., Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina HS) scored the game-winning goal on the power play at the 1:53 mark of overtime, and Corrie Krzyska (Jr., Fridley, Minn.) scored two goals, including the game-tying goal with 4:52 left in regulation, as Augsburg College claimed a 4-3 upset victory over the University of Wisconsin-Superior in a nonconference women's hockey game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Anderson scored the game-winner on assists from Carrie Velenchenko (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) and Britt Pennington (Fr., St. Cloud, Minn./Tech HS) with eight seconds to go on Augsburg's sixth power play of the game.

Augsburg improves to 8-8-0 on the season with the win, its first overtime game of the year. Wisconsin-Superior, ranked No. 6 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online Division III national poll, drops to 14-3-1 overall, snapping a four-game winning streak.

Leading 2-0 after two periods on goals from Krzyska and Lauren Chezick (Jr., Hastings, Minn.), Augsburg gave up three goals in the first 12 minutes of the third period to fall behind for the first time in the game.

Mary Jane McCormick (Fr., Batchewane Bay, Ontario) slipped a shot past Augsburg goalie Kristin Johnson (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn./Wayzata HS) in front for the Yellowjackets' first goal of the game at the 4:44 mark. Fifty-eight seconds later, Erin Kegley (Fr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) tied the game with a wrister in front from Lindsay Bennett (Fr., Sudbury, Ontario).

The Yellowjackets took their only lead of the game at the 11:50 mark, as defender Katie King (Fr., Thessalon, Ontario) scored her first collegiate goal on a slap shot from the middle point that made its way through a screen in front and past Johnson.

Augsburg tied the game at the 15:08 mark, when Krzyska deposited her second goal of the game on a rebound off a shot by Velenchenko. Defender Melynda Kleewein (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond HS) also assisted on the goal, giving her 50 career points (nine goals, 41 assists).

At the end of regulation, a penalty for slashing was assessed to Wisconsin-Superior's Caitlin Jarrett (Fr., Bar River, Ontario), giving the Auggies a rare overtime power play. Augsburg had two shots on goal on the power play, while the Yellowjackets did not get off a shot on goal in the extra session.

Wisconsin-Superior outshot Augsburg by a 27-20 margin, including an 11-6 edge in the third period. Johnson picked up 24 saves to score the win, while Kristy Faechner (So., Taber, Alberta) fell to 12-2-1 on the year, with 16 saves.

Krzyska scored her first goal of the game at the 10:49 mark of the first period, getting a feed in front from Calla Lundquist (So., Gillette, Wyo./Campbell County HS) behind the net.

Chezick scored her ninth goal of the season on feeds from Anderson and Annie Annunziato (Sr., Commack, N.Y.) at the 13:33 mark of the second period. the goal gives Chezick 98 career points (41 goals, 57 assists) at Augsburg. Chezick could become the second Augsburg player to ever break the 100-point barrier (varsity opponents only); Angie Rieger (1997-2001) holds the school's career scoring record with 120 points (68 goals, 52 assists). Chezick holds Augsburg's school record for career assists (57).

With the assist, Annunziato picked up her 140th career point. A transfer from Manhattanville (N.Y.) last season, Annunziato currently has 77 points (34 goals, 43 assists) as an Auggie, and 140 career points overall (56 goals, 84 assists).

The teams complete the two-game nonconference series on Saturday (1/31) at 2 p.m. at the Wessman Ice Arena in Superior, Wis.
