Auggies sweep Marian College (Wis.) winning 5-2.

Fond du Lac, Wis. (1/4/03) -- Brady Fougner (So., International Falls, Minn.) had two goals and an assist as Augsburg College improved to 2-7-1 with a weekend sweep over Marian College (Wis.) over the Weekend.

The Auggies took a 1-0 lead 5:01 into the first on goal by Critter Nagurski (Fr., International Falls, Minn.). The goal is Nagurski's first collegiate goal. Goals by Fougner and David May (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) in a span of :32 late in the first period made it 3-0.

After a scoreless second period, Marian's Ian Carroll (Jr., Peoria, IL)socred 2:14 into the third period. The Auggies built their lead back to three at 4-1 on a goal by Steve Collova (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) late in the third period. Marian would score once more and the Auggies would add an empty-netter for the final score of 5-2.

Defense again helped provide a spark for the Auggies, as goalie David Nash (So., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) made 35 saves for the winners. Marian out-shot Augsburg for the second straight day, this time 37-27, but were unable to take advantage, going 1-for-7 on the power play. Sabre goalie Terry Dunbar (Sr., Duluth, MN) had 22 saves in defeat

Despite coming into the weekend winless on the season, Augsburg continues to have Marian's number on the ice, as they improve to 7-0-1 all-time against the Sabres with the victory.

Augsburg heads up to Moorhead for a weekend series against Concordia College Moorhead this Friday and Saturday. Face-off is 7:05 p.m. both nights.
