MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/16/04) -- Brandon Root had a hat trick to account for all three Concordia College-Moorhead goals, as the Cobbers claimed a 3-3, double-overtime tie with visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at Jake Christiansen Field.
Alec Rabine (Fr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) had a goal and assist for the Auggies, who broke a three-game losing streak in moving to 7-6-2 overall, 1-4-2 in MIAC play. Concordia is now 1-11-3 overall, 0-6-2 in MIAC play.
Root opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 24th minute, but one minute later, Augsburg's
Aaron Riedel (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) tied the game on a goal from Rabine. Rabine scored from
Clarke Athman (Sr., St. Joseph, Minn.) in the 29th minute.
Root scored twice in a 10-minute span midway through the second half, on assists from Chad Morlock and Matt Klein.
Augsburg tied the game in the 74th minute, as
Noah Turner (So., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) scored from
Mark Cohn (Fr., Anoka, Minn./Blaine HS).
Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 15-10 margin.
Lucas Grant (Sr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska HS) made five saves for the Auggies, while Nik Pickett made seven saves for the Cobbers.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Wednesday (10/20) with a 7:30 p.m. game against Bethel at Edor Nelson Field. The game will be preceeded by a women's MIAC game against Hamline at 5 p.m. Concordia hosts Mayville State (N.D.) in a nonconference game next Saturday (10/23) at 1 p.m.
