Women's Soccer 10/16/04 -- Concordia-Moorhead 2, Augsburg 1 (OT)

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/16/04) -- Suzy Grabko scored the game-winning goal on a crossing shot with 43 seconds left in the first overtime, lifting Concordia College-Moorhead to a 2-1 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Jake Christiansen Field.

The loss broke a three-game winning streak for the Auggies, who are now 7-6-0 overall and 5-3-0 in MIAC play. However, Augsburg remains in a fourth-place tie in the MIAC standings with St. Thomas (7-7-0 overall, 5-4-0 MIAC), a team the Auggies beat on Sept. 29. The top four teams in the MIAC standings make the postseason playoffs; Augsburg has three conference games remaining, while St. Thomas has two league games left.

Concordia, in second place in the MIAC behind Macalester, is now 11-3-0 overall and 8-1-0 in MIAC play.

Becky Lewis (So., Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall HS) opened the scoring for the Auggies with a goal from Aili Brom-Palkowski (So., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) in the 13th minute. But a minute-and-a-half later, Concordia tied the game on Morgan Bain's 20th goal of the season, setting a school single-season record. She was assisted by Kelly Ping.

The game remained tied for the rest of regulation, before Grabko scored the game-winner in the 100th minute.

Concordia outshot Augsburg by a 20-7 margin in the game, including a 10-2 margin in the second half and 3-0 margin in overtime.

Auggie goalkeeper Liz Osterman (Fr., Lincoln, Neb./Southeast HS) made seven saves, while Concordia goalkeeper Ashley Liegakos made four saves.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Wednesday (10/20) at 5 p.m., with a rescheduled game against Hamline at Edor Nelson Field. The game will be followed by a men's MIAC game against Bethel at 7:30 p.m. Concordia has a nonconference game at the University of Chicago (Ill.) next Saturday (10/23) at 2 p.m.
