Men's Soccer 10/23/04 -- Carleton 5, Augsburg 0
BOXSCORE
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (10/23/04) -- Yemi Adegunju (Sr., Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey Collegiate) scored two goals less than 10 minutes apart as the host Carleton College men's soccer team scored three goals in a 12:04 span of the first half in defeating Augsburg College, 5-0, in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Bell Field.
Carleton (6-10-0 overall, 4-4-0 MIAC) kept its faint MIAC postseason playoff hopes alive with the victory. Carleton held an 18-9 edge in shots over the Auggies (7-8-2 overall, 1-6-2 MIAC) and 7-4 in shots on goal.
Ross Mattson (So., St. Paul, Minn./Minnehaha Academy) and Brian Aleinokoff (Sr., Denver/University of Denver) combined to keep the Auggies off the board, the Knights' second MIAC shutout of the season. Five of Carleton's seven shots on goal found the back of the net.
The hosts opened the scoring in the eighth minute, as David Watson (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) notched his sixth goal of the season, gathering in a pass from Nick Feltz (So., West Des Moines, Iowa/WDM Valley), carrying it across the goal and taking a clear shot to the left.
Feltz, who missed the past two games with an injury, set up Adegunju's first gaol in the 26th minute by dribbling through the defense and laying the ball off for Adegunju. The senior striker scored again in the 36th minute for his ninth goal of the season. The tally came off a restart, as Robbie Webber (So., Norwich, Vt./St. Paul's School) hit the ball to Marc Monbouquette (Fr., Omaha, Neb./Omaha Central), who headed it to Adegunju on the near post for the score.
Carleton erased any hope of an Auggie tally shortly thereafter, as Will Camisa (So., Los Altos, Calif./Woodside Priory) gathered in a cross from Thomas Ashton (Fr., Los Altos, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) on the right side for his third goal of the season.
Charlie Mandile tallied his first goal of the season, scoring an unassisted goal in the 74th minute to cap the scoring.
Lucas Grant (Sr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska Area HS) made two saves for the Auggies in goal.
Mike Elcano (Sr., Sparks, Nev./Bishop Manogue HS) had three shots for the Auggies.
Augsburg finishes its season on Tuesday (10/26) at 7:30 p.m., hosting St. Olaf at Edor Nelson Field. Carleton is also in action on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., with a game at Macalester.
