National No. 5 Gustavus scores 2-0 win at Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS (10/8/04) -- Ryan Beduhn (Fr., St. Cloud, Minn./Tech HS) and Caleb Bousu (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) each scored for Gustavus Adolphus College, as the Gusties ran their men's soccer unbeaten streak to 28 straight games with a 2-0 victory over host Augsburg College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Friday night at Edor Nelson Field.

Andrew Moulton (Sr., St. Peter, Minn.) made two saves to record his seventh shutout of the season for the Gusties, ranked No. 5 in the latest Division III national poll and tops in the West Region. Gustavus is now 11-0-2 overall and 5-0-1 in MIAC play; Augsburg drops to 7-5-1 overall, 1-3-1 in conference play.

Gustavus moved its unbeaten streak to 28 straight games dating back to a 1-0 overtime loss to St. Olaf on Sept. 17, 2003. Gustavus is 22-0-7 in the span.

The Gusties dominated action, controlling possession for most of the contest and outshooting the host Auggies by a 23-5 margin. Lucas Grant (Sr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska HS) made six saves for the Auggies.

Beduhn scored his first collegiate goal in the 42nd minute, taking a feed from Bobby Kroog (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and deflecting a shot off an Augsburg defender and past the goalkeeper.

Bousu scored his third goal of the season in the 67th minute on a crossing pass from Grant Morlock (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.). Bousu popped a shot over the goalkeeper from 15 yards out on the right side of the penalty box.

Both teams return to MIAC action on Wednesday (10/13). Augsburg plays at St. John's at 3:30 p.m., while Gustavus hosts Bethel at 4 p.m.
