Augsburg claimed two shorthanded goals in the contest, including a shorthanded tally midway through the third period by Aaron Johnson (So., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS), a transfer from Division I Michigan Tech, that gave the Auggies a 5-3 cushion.

The Saints cut into the lead at the 16:23 mark on an unassisted steal and score by Curtis Markewich (Jr., Regina, Saskatchewan), but could not tie the game in the closing minutes. St. Scholastica outshot Augsburg by a 18-6 margin in the third period, but Ciro made 17 saves for the Auggies.
