CROOKSTON, Minn. (11/27/04) --
Aaron Johnson (So., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) scored two goals and had an assist for a three-point night, leading the Augsburg College men's hockey team to a 5-2 nonconference victory over the University of Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday night at the Crookston Civic Arena.
Joe Haehn (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) added a goal and an assist for the Auggies, now 2-4-1 overall. Minnesota-Crookston drops to 2-7-0 on the season. The teams complete the nonconference series on Sunday (11/28) at 2 p.m. in Crookston.
Eight different Auggies figured in the scoring. Johnson opened the game with his first goal just 14 seconds into the game, on an assist from
Dan Leopold (Fr., Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS). Midway through the frame,
Critter Nagurski (So., International Falls, Minn.) scored from
Greg May (So., Burnsville, Minn.) and
Jason Fleck (Fr., Camrose, Alberta/Camrose Composite HS).
Minnesota-Crookston scored at the 14:50 mark, as Brock Anundson scored from Nate Timm and Patrick Knutson, but the Auggies gained a two-goal advantage again with one minute remaining in the first frame, as
Matt Jackson (So., Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) notched his first goal of the season in unassisted fashion.
After Minnesota-Crookston again cut the lead to one goal midway through the period, on Kurtis Dukelow's goal from Anundson and Timm, Augsburg wrapped up the game in rapid fashion, scoring twice in a 17-second span. Johnson scored an empty-net goal from Haehn at the 18:55 mark, and Haehn scored off the ensuing draw from
Danny Carlson (Fr., Roseville, Minn.) and Johnson at the 19:12 mark.
Augsburg outshot Minnesota-Crookston by a 35-32 margin. Both Augsburg's
Tony Ciro (Jr., Spring Lake Park, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) and Minnesota-Crookston's Brett Shelanski made 30 saves apiece.
