David Clements has goal and assist, Ciro picks up shutout, Auggies blank Hamline 4-0!

ST. PAUL, Minn. (12/10/04) -- David Clements (Fr., Grande Prairie, Alberta/Grande Prairie Composite HS) scored a goal and an assist as his Augsburg College men's hockey team defeated host Hamline University 4-0 Friday night in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at the State Fair Coliseum.

The Pipers (2-9, 0-3 in the MIAC) trailed 2-0 after the first period on Augsburg goals by Greg May (So., Burnsville, Minn.) at 10:41 and Joe Haehn (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) at 18:07. Augsburg (4-5-2, 2-1) held a 12-4 edge in shots on goal in the period.

For the game, the Augsburg outshot the Pipers 36-19.

Augsburg would add single goals in both the second and third periods. Clements scored on the power play at 8:22 of the second. He later assisted on a goal by Danny Clements (Fr., Grande Prairie, Alberta/Grande Prairie Composite HS) at 9:52 of the third. Brett Osness (Jr., Calgary, Alberta/Springbrook HS) had two assists for the Auggies.

Hamline netminder John Harstad made 32 saves in the contest. His counterpart Tony Ciro (Jr., Spring Lake Park, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) stopped all 19 shots for the shutout win, his first in an Augsburg uniform. Ciro transferred to Augsburg this season from Bethel.

The two teams will meet again Saturday (12/11) night at the Augsburg Ice Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
