BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS (12/3/04) -- Joe Haehn (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) and Cody Swanson (Jr., Vermillion, Minn./Hastings HS) scored goals 10 seconds apart midway through the third period, giving Augsburg College a 3-1 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Tied at 1-1 in the third period, Haehn scored near the end of one of Augsburg's seven power plays in the game at the 9:40 mark, on assists from Critter Nagurski (So., International Falls, Minn.) and Aaron Johnson (So., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS).

Ten seconds later, Swanson took the puck off the center-ice draw and walked in for the game-clinching goal on an unassisted tally.

Augsburg improved to 3-4-2 overall, extending its unbeaten streak to three straight games (2-0-1). Concordia dropped to 0-7-1 overall, losing its third straight game. Friday's game was the MIAC opener for both teams, and the teams will finish the series on Saturday (12/4) at 3 p.m. at Augsburg.

Concordia opened the scoring midway through the third period, as a Brett Johnson (Jr., Thief River Falls, Minn.) blast from center ice trickled past Augsburg goalie Tony Ciro (Jr., Spring Lake Park, Minn./Hill-Murray HS). An assist was credited to Steve Rosenfeldt (Sr., Moorhead, Minn.).

But Augsburg tied the game at the 17:27 mark, as Dan Leopold (Fr., Afton, Minn./Stillwater HS) claimed his first collegiate goal, on assists from Jason Fleck (Fr., Camrose, Alberta/Camrose Composite HS) and Nagurski.

The teams played a scoreless second period, but Augsburg dominated the third, outshooting the Cobbers by a 12-4 mark, en route to a 35-31 shot advantage. Ciro made 30 saves for Augsburg; Lee Baldwin (So., Horace, N.D.) made 32 saves for Concordia.

Augsburg went 1-for-7 on the power play, while Concordia went 0-for-6.
