Women's Basketball 12/4/04 -- St. Mary's 97, Augsburg 72

MINNEAPOLIS (12/4/04) -- Angie Arrington (Sr., Spring Grove, Minn.) led all scorers with 26 points, including nailing four 3-pointers, leading St. Mary's University to a 97-72 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.
St. Mary's was efficient from beyond the arc, connecting on 13 three-pointers in improving to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in MIAC play. Augsburg drops to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in MIAC play.
St. Mary's held the lead virtually the entire contest, slowly pulling away in the first half. An 11-5 run over a two-minute span midway through the first half put the Cardinals up by seven points, and the visitors did not trail by less than five points the rest of the way. An 11-0 run near the end of the first half gave the Cardinals a double-digit lead. St. Mary's led 52-37 at halftime and stretched the lead to as many as 30 points in the second half.
Ten different Cardinal players scored. Ashley Luehmann (Jr., Lewiston, Minn.) scored 21 points with three assists and four steals, while Tessa Stranik (Sr., Eatonville, Wash.) connected on four 3-pointers for 12 points. Jamie Rattunde (Sr., Rollingstone, Minn./Winona HS) scored 10 points with eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. Megan Moran (So., Burlington, Wis./Westosha Central HS) had seven points, six assists and three steals.
Augsburg was paced by two newcomers off the bench.
Lia Ragozzino (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) scored 16 points, hitting 5-of-8 from the field, and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Amy Kelvie (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./Patrick Henry HS) scored 11 points, hitting 4-of-5 from the field.
Rachel Cherry (Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) had nine points,
Marissa Lindback (So., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) had eight points and
Kristina Lurken (Fr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had seven points.
Both teams return to action on Monday (12/6), with St. Mary's playing at Macalester at 5:30 p.m. and Augsburg playing at Bethel at 7:30 p.m.
