Gustavus completes shutout sweep with 6-0 win over Augsburg

ST. PETER, Minn. (12/4/04) -- The Gustavus Adolphus College women's hockey team remained unbeaten on the season with a 6-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Augsburg College at Don Roberts Ice Rink on Saturday night.

The Gusties, who are now 5-0-1 overall and 4-0-0 in the MIAC, have not allowed a goal in the last 314:19 of play, which dates back to the second period of the first game of the season. Goaltender Kitty Hurley picked up her first shutout of the season, while the team picked up its fifth shutout of the year. Augsburg is now 4-3-2 overall and 2-2-0 in MIAC play, having lost its last three games in a row.

Gustavus scored its first two goals in the first period. Ingrid Neve opened the scoring when she lit the lamp at the 2:04 mark. Assists were credited to Abby Randall and Laura Vanelli. The Gusties' second goal was a power-play goal by Laura Stypulkowski at 16:10 with assists from Molly Doyle and Kelly Crandall.

The Gusties broke the game open with three goals in the second period, extending their lead to 5-0. Molly Doyle scored a power-play goal at 8:02, Neve tallied her second goal at 8:19, and Tanna Tuomie picked up her second goal of the season at 18:31. Andrea Peterson was credited with the assist on Doyle's goal and Danny Blacker was given the assist on Tuomie's goal.

The final goal of the game was scored by Crandall with an assist from Doyle at 4:37 of the third period.

Gustavus outshot Augsburg 45-11 in the game. Hurley made 11 saves for the Gusties and recorded the shutout in the nets. Augsburg used two goaltenders in the game. Amanda Bockmann (Fr., Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego HS) made 21 saves in 40 minutes of play, while Kristin Johnson (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn./Wayzata HS) recorded 18 saves in 20 minutes of play.

Gustavus has now outscored its opponents 27-2 in five games this season. In addition, the Gusties have not allowed a goal in 29 power-play opportunities.

Both teams have MIAC series next weekend. Augsburg faces St. Catherine in a two-game series, with Friday's (10/10) game at the Augsburg Ice Arena at 7:05 p.m., and Saturday's (10/11) game at 12 p.m. at the University of Minnesota's Ridder Arena. Gustavus hosts Bethel on Friday at 7:05 p.m., and plays at Bethel on Saturday at 7 p.m.
