Women's Basketball 2/21/04 -- St. Catherine 76, Augsburg 67

MINNEAPOLIS (2/21/04) -- Kate Stodolka (Sr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) scored a game-high 25 points, going 11-of-13 at the free-throw line, while teammate Jenna Martin (So., Grove City, Minn./A-C-GC HS) had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, as the College of St. Catherine built a 12-point halftime lead and cruised to a 76-67 win over host Augsburg College in a a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

The Wildcats built leads of 15 points in the first half and 19 points in the second half to finish the season at 9-16 overall, 7-15 in MIAC play. Augsburg finished its season 5-20 overall, 5-17 in MIAC play, dropping its ninth game in its final 11 starts.

A 17-2 run over a five-minute span midway through the first half gave the Wildcats the lead to stay, 25-9 with 11:49 left. Kate Bremmer (Fr., Granite Falls, Minn./Yellow Medicine East HS) had five of her nine points in the run, while Stodolka and Natalie Lyzhoft (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) had four points each in the crucial run.

Augsburg could get no closer than seven points the rest of the way. St. Catherine led 47-35 at halftime, and the lead only slipped below double-digits once in the second half, in the final minute of play.

Lyzhoft ended up with 12 points and three steals in the game. Katie Jones (Sr., Alpha, Minn./Martin County West HS) had eight points and four rebounds.

Augsburg was paced by Julie Andert * (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.), playing in her final collegiate game as an Auggie. She claimed her fifth double-double of the season, and sixth of her career, with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Ashley Vossen (So., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) scored in double figures for her ninth game in a row and 12th time in her last 15 games, hitting two 3-pointers and scoring 15 points to go with seven rebounds. Katie Kelsey (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) came off the bench to score 10 points with six rebounds, and Brandi Bennett (Sr., Strasburg, Colo.), also playing in her final Augsburg game, had seven poitns and a game-high seven assists.

Center Selina Theisen (Fr., Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS), Augsburg's leading scorer this season, was limited to just two points and four rebounds in just 17 minutes of play, but claimed three blocked shots to finish her season with 72, setting an Augsburg career record along the way. The former Augsburg career mark was 68, set by Kris Stenke from 1984-88.
