St. Mary's pulls away in second half, claims 98-73 win at Augsburg.

MINNEAPOLIS (2/14/04) -- Jamie Rattunde (Jr., Rollingstone, Minn./Winona HS) claimed a triple-double, with 24 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists, leading St. Mary's University to a 98-73 victory over host Augsburg College in a a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

Rattunde added four steals in her effort. She scored 14 points and had seven rebounds in the second half, as the Cardinals outscored the Auggies 54-33, turning a four-point halftime advantage into a 25-point rout.

St. Mary's, now 15-8 overall and 14-6 in MIAC play, shot 60.6 percent (20-of-33) from the field in the second half and connected on 10-of-12 (83.3 percent) from the free-throw line in the second stanza. The Cardinals connected on 34-of-70 (48.6 percent) from the field in the game and converted 20-of-26 (76.9 percent) from the charity stripe. St. Mary's also connected on 10-of-24 from three-point range (41.7 percent).

A 14-3 run over a four-minute span early in the second half gave the Cardinals a 14-point advantage, 63-49, but the Auggies took a run of their own -- 13-3 -- to trim the lead back to four points, 66-62 with 8:15 left. After that, however, it was all St. Mary's, as the Cardinals outscored the Auggies 32-11 the rest of the way.

Augsburg freshman center Selina Theisen (Fr., Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) scored a career-high 32 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season and her 19th double-figure scoring game in her 22 career contests.

St. Mary's took advantage of 18 Augsburg turnovers, scoring 30 points off the miscues -- 15 in each half. Meanwhile, Augsburg managed just eight points off of 11 St. Mary's turnovers. St. Mary's outrebounded Augsburg by a 43-39 margin. Augsburg shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field, but managed only 2-of-13 (15.4 percent) from beyond the arc -- 0-of-7 in the second half.

Twelve Cardinals saw game action and eight scored. Angie Arrington (Jr., Spring Grove, Minn.) had 21 points, hitting three 3-pointers. Ashley Luehmann (So., Lewiston, Minn./Lewiston-Altura HS) had 15 points, and Megan Moran (Fr., Burlington, Wis./Wetosha Central HS) and Tessa Stranik (Jr., Eatonville, Wash.) had 11 points apiece. Beth Walch (Sr., Altura, Minn./Winona Cotter HS) had nine points and seven rebounds.

Julie Andert * (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored 15 oints with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Auggies, while Ashley Vossen (So., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) scored in double figures for her seventh game in a row and 11th time in her last 13 games scoring 10 points.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Wednesday (2/18). Augsburg plays at Concordia at 5:30 p.m., while St. Mary's plays at St. Catherine at 7:30 p.m.
