St. Thomas outrebounds Augsburg 52-34, outscores Augsburg 82-55.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/2/04) -- Junior guard Kristi Huegel scored 18 points, and the host University of St. Thomas used a 52-34 rebounding edge in Monday's 82-55 victory over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game at UST's Schoenecker Arena.

Huegel scored 11 points in the first five minutes to help push St. Thomas (10-9 overall, 9-7 MIAC) to a 28-4 lead. The Tommies led 38-26 at halftime and used a 12-0 run to open the second half and take control. The Tommies completed a season sweep of the Auggies and now have won 38 in a row in the all-time series.

Sophomore guard Ashley Vossen (So., St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) scored a game-high 21 points for the Auggies (4-15 overall, 4-12 MIAC), including three 3-point baskets in a 61-second stretch of the first half.

Freshman center Selina Theisen (Fr., Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) returned to the Auggie lineup after missing the second half of Saturday's loss to St. Benedict with an injury, adding 13 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots. She now has scored in double figures in 17 of her 19 career games. She now has 60 blocked shots this season, just eight away from tying Augsburg's career record for blocked shots, 68, set by Kristi Stenke from 1984-88.

Jenny Hable scored 10 points off the bench, and Katie Wiberg added eight points, seven assists and five rebounds for the Tommies. Katie Kelsey (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) and Ashley Sasek (Jr., Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine HS) scored six points apiece for the Auggies.

St. Thomas improved to 9-0 when it scores 70 or more points.

Both teams return to MIAC action on Wednesday (2/4). St. Thomas hosts Concordia-Moorhead at 5:30 p.m., while Augsburg plays at Bethel at 7:30 p.m.
