Women's Hockey 2/6/04 -- Augsburg 4, Concordia-Moorhead 2

MINNEAPOLIS (2/6/04) -- Lauren Chezick (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) became just the second Augsburg College women's hockey player ever to reach the century mark in career points, scoring two goals to lead Augsburg College to a 4-2 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
With her two goals Friday, both on the power play, Chezick, a junior, now has 100 career points -- 43 goals and 57 assists. Angie Rieger (1997-2001) holds the school's career scoring record with 120 points (school-record 68 goals, 52 assists). Chezick holds Augsburg's school record for career assists (57).
Augsburg scored three goals in the second period to pull away from the Cobbers and improve to 9-9-0 overall and 5-6-0 in MIAC play, winning its third game in its last four starts. Concordia drops to 5-8-0 overall, 4-7-0 in MIAC play, snapping a two-game winning streak.
Chezick opened the game with a power-play goal at the 3:07 mark from linemate
Annie Annunziato (Sr., Commack, N.Y.).
Annunziato, who transferred to Augsburg last year from eastern power Manhattanville (N.Y.), now has 142 career points overall (56 goals, 86 assists); 79 points (34 goals, 45 assists) in her two seasons as an Auggie.
But just 1:43 later, Concordia tied the game on a goal from Brandie Dunn (Fr., Plano, Texas), on an assist by Paige Stone (Fr., San Dimas, Calif.).
Concordia took its only lead of the game early in the second period, as Hannah Impola (Fr., Brainerd, Minn.) found the net on an assist by Lindsay Czarnecki (Jr., Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly HS).
Augsburg scored the final three goals of the game to claim the victory. Defender
Calla Lundquist (So., Gillette, Wyo./Campbell County HS) scored her first collegiate goal on an assist by
Britt Pennington (Fr., St. Cloud, Minn./Tech HS) at the 6:07 mark of the second period.
Augsburg then scored twice in a 27-second span to clinch the win.
Kristin Murr (Fr., Thornton, Colo./Quest Academy HS) scored from
Corrie Krzyska (Jr., Fridley, Minn.) at the 13:00 mark, and after a Cobber penalty 12 seconds later, Augsburg's Chezick lit the lamp for the second time in the game on the power play, with the assist going to
Stacy Anderson (Fr., Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina HS).
Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 35-23 margin, including a 27-16 margin in the final two periods.
Katie Fedoryk (Sr., Austin, Minn.) made 21 saves to score the win for the Auggies, while Jamie Savage (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount HS) made 14 saves for the Cobbers, with Jenna Johnson (So., Wadena, Minn.) making 17 saves in relief.
The teams complete the MIAC series on Saturday (2/7) at 2:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
