Corrie Krzyska scores game-winning goal with 40 seconds left, Augsburg rallies past Concordia-Moorhead 3-2

MINNEAPOLIS (2/7/04) -- Corrie Krzyska (Jr., Fridley, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal with 40 seconds remaining in the third period on Saturday, giving Augsburg College a 3-2, come-from-behind victory over Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Krzyska took a pass from defender Laura Hoffman (Sr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) in front and scored the in the final minute to claim the series sweep for the Auggies and keep the hosts in the thick of the race for a berth in the five-team MIAC postseason playoffs.

Augsburg is now 10-9-0 overall, 6-6-0 in MIAC play, winning its fourth game in its last five starts, while Concordia drops to 5-9-0 overall, 4-8-0 in the MIAC.

Augsburg rallied from a 2-1 deficit entering the third period to score the victory. Stacy Anderson (Fr., Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina HS) scored on a rebound off a Laura Prasek (Jr., Fridley, Minn.) shot at the 11:10 mark of the third period to tie the game.

Augsburg dominated the third period, outshooting Concordia by a 12-4 margin. Kristin Murr (Fr., Thornton, Colo./Quest Academy HS) had two solid opportunities to score, but one blast hit the goalpost and another breakaway was stopped on a sprawling save by Concordia goalie Jenna Johnson (So., Wadena, Minn.).

Augsburg claimed a 31-23 advantage in shots on goal. Johnson made 28 saves for Concordia, while Augsburg got 21 saves from Kristin Johnson (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn./Wayzata HS) to score the win.

Concordia scored first in the contest, as Brandie Dunn (Fr., Plano, Texas) snuck a shot under the Augsburg goalie's pads from Sam Gunning (So., Brainerd, Minn.).

But Augsburg tied the game 58 seconds later on its only power play of the game, as Annie Annunziato (Sr., Commack, N.Y.) scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season, on assists from Anderson and Lauren Chezick (Jr., Hastings, Minn.).

The goal marked Annunziato's 80th point in her two seasons as an Auggie (35 goals, 45 assists). A transfer from eastern power Manhattanville (N.Y.), Annunziato now has 143 career points overall (57 goals, 86 assists).

Concordia took the lead back midway through the second period, as Lindsay Czarnecki (Jr., RIverside, Calif./Riverside Poly HS) stole the puck in the zone and scored an unassisted goal.

Augsburg returns to MIAC action with a two-game series against St. Catherine. The Auggies and Wildcats play on Thursday (2/12) at 7 p.m. at Ritter Arena in Minneapolis, with Saturday's (2/14) game at 2:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Concordia returns to MIAC action with a two-game series hosting Gustavus. Friday's game is at 7 p.m., and Saturday's game is at 12 noon.
