MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. (3/4/04) -- Maureen Hardwick's unassisted goal in the game's 97th minute gave the top-seed University of St. Thomas a 6-5 victory over visiting Augsburg College Thursday night in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey playoff semifinals at St. Thomas Ice Arena.

After St. Thomas senior Tomery Stolz scored with five seconds left in regulation to forge a 5-5 deadlock, the teams played 36:09 of sudden-death overtime to make it the longest women's hockey game in conference history.

St. Thomas outshot Augsburg 32-9 in overtime in a game that lasted 3 hours, 25 minutes. It also was the third overtime game between the teams in a seven-day span. Last weekend, the teams tied Friday at UST 2-2 but Augsburg won at home Saturday in overtime, 2-1.

Freshman Stacy Andeson (Fr., Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina HS) scored two goals and senior goalie Katie Fedoryk (Sr., Austin, Minn.) stopped 58 of 64 shots while playing all 97:06 for the fifth-seeded Auggies, who had a nine-game unbeaten streak halted and closed their season 15-10-2 overall.

Freshman Katie Jetland played the final 46:16 in goal for the Tommies (19-5-2) and stopped 14 of 15 shots. Starter Becky Kilpatrick left with an injury with 11:50 remaining after the Auggies tied the game 4-4.

St. Thomas, which tied a school record for season wins, will host second-seed Gustavus Saturday in the 2 p.m. finals. It's a rematch of the 2003 championship, won by St. Thomas 4-1.

Augsburg rallied from 2-0 and 4-3 deficits to take a 5-4 lead on Dottie Gilkerson's (Sr., Somerset, Wis.) goal with 9:09 remaining in the game.

The Tommies missed several late chances after pulling their goalie with 1:43 to play. They were down to their last faceoff with 15 seconds to go when Stolz scored the tying goal, assisted by freshman Maggie Toft.

The Auggies played all 97 minutes without being assessed a penalty while UST was called for six, including one on Hardwick moments before the game-winning goal. The Auggies went 1-for-6 on the power play after going 0-for-13 on power-play tries in last weekend's games vs. St. Thomas.

Annie Annunziato (Sr., Commack, N.Y.) had a goal and assist for the Auggies in her final career game. Annunziato, who transferred to Augsburg from Manhattanville (N.Y.) last year, finished her career with 153 career points (62 goals, 91 assists) in 104 career games. At Augsburg, she finished with 90 points (40 goals, 50 assists) in 53 games over two seasons.

Lauren Chezick (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) had two assists for the Auggies.
