Hamline scores 3 goals in first 14 minutes to claim 3-0 win over Augsburg.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/15/04) -- Hamline University scored three times in the first 14 minutes of the game en route to a 3-0 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer contest Wednesday afternoon at Pat Paterson Fields.

Freshman Josh Faust scored just 2:49 into the contest on a crossing pass from junior Micah Merritt. Less than 10 minutes later, Jeremy Wade scored his second goal of the season with an assist from Derek Vinge. Junior Jacob Helling scored his first of the year on a header at 13:31 on an assist from Vinge.

The Pipers (6-0, 1-0 in the MIAC) outshot the Auggies (2-2-1, 0-1-1) 10-1 in the first half and 13-8 for the game. Hamline goalkeeper Andrew Clement made four saves for the victory.

Auggie Lucas Grant (Sr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska HS) made six saves in the loss. Aaron Riedel (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and Ben Simonet (Fr., Stillwater, Minn.) had two shots apiece for the Auggies.

Augsburg has a two-game road trip this weekend in nonconference play. The Auggies will play at Viterbo (Wis.) on Friday (9/17) at 3 p.m., and play at Coe (Iowa) on Saturday (9/18) at 3 p.m. Hamline will next play at Central (Iowa) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
